Are black olives or ranch dressing safe for cats to eat?
My cat got into my salad and seems to have liked it. Is she safeor are these foods bad for animals?

there are alot of human foods that are toxic and can poison a cat...
here is a list of foods to avoid:
1. Pear pips, the kernels of plums, peaches and apricots, apple core pips (contain cyanogenic glycosides resulting in cyanide poisoning)
2.Potato peelings and green looking potatoes
3. Rhubarb leaves
4. Moldy/spoiled foods
5. Alcohol
6. Yeast dough
7. Coffee grounds, beans & tea (caffeine)
8. Hops (used in home brewing)
9. Tomatoes, and tomato leafs/stems
10. Broccoli (in large amounts)
11. Raisins and grapes
12. Cigarettes, tobacco, cigars
13. chocolate
14. onions
15. garlic
16. macadamia nuts
17. milk or dairy (most dogs and cats are lactose intolerant)
many of the above mentioned foods can cause kidney failure, chronic diarrhea, cardiac arrest, cramping, bloating, gas, chronic stomachaches, and other health issues

as far as the black olives and ranch..your cat should be fine if she just had alittle and if this doesn't happen very often
I'd be worried if this was a weekly or monthly event however it sounds like this doesn't happen that often.
I'd also be worried if the cat downed more than say a half dozen olives because then she might throw up.
The thing about animals is that they don't always know what is good for them; much like children. For Example: Both children and animals love to eat chocolate, and as we all know candy is not good for anyone. The difference is that animals like cats and dogs are smaller and much more sensitive to unhealthy foods than we are. So a chocolate bar, which would make a child have an upset tummy and want to lie down, may actually be fatal if eaten by a cat or a dog.
My main concerns are that both olives and ranch dressing have a high fat and cholestoral count, however this is not a big deal since the cat doesn't eat these things often.
Another concern would be the amount of dairy products in the ranch dressing, a little known fact about both cats and dogs is that the majority of them are actually lactose intolerant! Everyone thinks that cats love milk and cream, what they don't realize is that they are truly putting their cats through alot of pain by allowing them to consume dairy products.
