How long will cigarettes stay fresh if kept wrapped?
I'm going on a cruze and I am bringing a carton of cigarettes. will they stay fresh for a long time or will they get stale??

Cigarettes have a 6-14 month shelf life from date of manufacture. Phillip Morris brand (Marlboro) has a date code stamp on each pack ie: V159Z94A5
V=state of manufacture (v=Virginia)
159=day of manufacture (jan 1 = 1 dec. 31 = 365)
Z=unknown month code
9= year of manufacture
So, in the example the pack was manufactured on the 159th day of 2009 (you can divide 159 by 30 to give you the approximate month easily)
Now you can know you are buying a fresh pack, not something that has been on the shelf for 10 months! (not every store rotates stock or pulls out of date product like they should)
Again, this is Philip Morris's system, I'm sure other manufacturers have their own system (google newport date code, etc.).
As far as keeping freshness after purchasing, I used to find (when I smoked, before getting pregnant) keeping the packs in the refrigerator or freezer helped them stay fresh longer. However, even without doing that, they should be fine even on the longest of cruises!
