What do you think of Pres Elect Obama's proposal to bail out Phillip Morris?
4 board members of both R J Reynolds and Phillip Morris appeared before senate Democrats to plead for a 11.5 billion bailout. It appears the economic crisis had hit the sale of cigarettes quite hard. When you do not have a job the first thing that goes is your pack of cigarettes. I guess the executives wanted to go under the publics' radar since their request is being overshadowed by the big three automakers. The belief from Washington insiders is that come February of next year their request will be granted although at a far less amount probably in the vicinity of $1 billion. Any thoughts on this? Are these kind of action going to doom the Obama presidency from the start or is this a continuation of policies started by the Bush administration?

I just did a yahoo search, a Google search and a Washingtonpost search and found no news reports whatsoever that Phillip Morris or RJ Reynolds has appealed to congress for a bail out.
