What can you tell me about the current day london england?
i'm just really curious about the current london england and i want to know more about it....like the type of houses they have there the people, schools there (high school in particular) the laws, it's government, things you can do their for fun, stores that they have there, street names... just everything. my parents are talking about moving their and i just wanted to find out more about it.

Well firstly forget everything you ever saw on Friends, the Simpsons, Notting Hill etc. it's not true.
Most of the housing falls into 4 categories. Mainly they are brick houses with slate roofs built around 1850 - 1900 with 2-8 bedrooms, the larger ones mainly converted into flats. Then there are large council housing estates, purpose built for people on low incomes. These flats are usually 2-3 bedrooms with hundreds being built on the same site and usually a small balcony on which to hang out washing, store your bicycle etc. The third is a more modern type of flat mainly found around redevelopment areas such as Docklands which is glass and chrome and wooden floors with lots of light but often lacking in space. There are also tenement blocks of flats usually on high streets with rows of shops underneath them. Most areas of London have their own smaller High Street which usually has the main shops people need. Shops usually found on an average local high street are: funeral director, florist, small supermarket (Somerfield, Tesco, Iceland, Co-Op, Sainsburys), Dry cleaner (often combined with a person who mends shoes and cuts keys), hairdresser (often a few with one for afro/caribbean hair, one for the old folks and one young trendy one), a nail salon (more popular in South London), a doctors surgery, a pharmacy (superdrug, boots, independent chemist), a butcher, a mobile phone shop, a pizza takeaway, Indian Take away, Chinese take away, fried chicken take away, Subway sandwich shop, newsagent (may also sell stationery), 24 grocer of some kind (sells cigarettes, alcohol and essential food items),
The school system in London works like this: At age 4 you go into reception class in Primary School then year 1. You leave primary school at year 6 and go to Secondary school. You have to legally stay at school until you are 16. Exams are GCSE's then A Levels. Some choose to stay on an extra year. You can start learning to drive at age 17. The government in London depends on what borough you are in. The Mayor of London is Boris Johnson who is a Conservative (and a bit of a loony). Each area of London has their own councillors who are voted for by residents. Each area of London also has their own MP who represents their area in Parliament.
I cannot list all the street names in London as that would take about a week to type out. Different areas of London are known for different things. South London is known as being more of an afro/caribbean area with a lot of Indian people too. I live in South London and I love it. I love the mix of cultures and the fact that my daughter is at primary school and growing up colour blind with friends of all races. Hendon and Golder's Green are known as the Jewish Areas of London in North London. Edgware Road and the surrounding area are the Muslim areas. The Bangladeshi area is in Tower Hamlets and Chinatown is in the centre behind Leicester Square. The Portugese area is Stockwell. The celebs like to live in Primrose Hill, the cool punky people like to live in Camden, Hoxton or Shoreditch. The Media types like to live in Clapham or Fulham. Rich people like to live in Chelsea, Kensington, Hampstead, Notting Hill and Belgravia.
